Italiano
Italiano
Language learning develops literacy and communication skills which are transferable across learning areas. It also strengthens students' understanding of linguistics, social and cultural practices and identities.
At Brunswick North Primary School, we have an engaging program where students interact in italiano daily. It is also reinforced in mainstream classes and curriculum. Italiano is taught from Foundation to Year 6 in a vibrant classroom environment with authentic material and contemporary resources, songs and language. There are many opportunities for students to extend their language learning through extra-curricular activities such as Il Coro dei bambini, Esperienza italiana and Italiano Vivo.
Il Coro dei Bambini is a voluntary activity for students from Grades 3-6. More than 100 students meet weekly, during their lunch, to learn authentic italiano songs. The highlight of the year is our Coro Concert, held at a local Italiano function centre.
Italiano Vivo in an extra lesson of Italiano for interested students form Grades 3-6. During this extra-curricular activity, students have an opportunity to participate in authentic speaking and interactive opportunities.
L'Esperienza Italiana is an immersion italiano experience at a local Italiano venue. It is an urban experience where students learn about Italiano culture and immigration. This is open to Grade 5 and 6 students.
Students also experience authentic language with the many Italiano assistants that we have had over the years. Our programme also includes a sister school relationship with la scuola primaria di Crugnola - Mornago a Varese in Lombardia, Italia.
